Bat Exterminators in Oklahoma and Texas
My name Gary Parks, owner and operator of Backwoods Wildlife Control serving Central/South Oklahoma and North Texas and I created this page to discuss a common confusion in the industry/marketplace. We often get calls from people seeking “bat exterminators”. This comes from the old idea that anyone who deals with any type of pest is an exterminator (be it squirrel exterminators, raccoon exterminators, skunk exterminators or bat exterminators). The correct use of the term “exterminator” would only be in the pest control industry. Exterminators deal with insects like ants, cockroaches, bed bugs and other type. Backwoods Wildlife Control deal with bats, squirrels, flying squirrels, skunks, raccoons, birds, and many other wildlife. We do not exterminate (kill) these animals. We use humane procedures to remove them and then animal-proof the structure using mechanical techniques to ensure that they do not return.
What we do is “Wildlife Removal Services.” We’re in the Wildlife Removal Industry. Wildlife Removal is completely separate from the Pest Control Industry. Wildlife Removal technicians have a different approach than Pest Control technicians.
So the correct terminology is “wildlife removal” company. We are not bat exterminators by definition. If you care about wildlife and want long-term solutions to wildlife problems you should always hire a company that specializes in wildlife removal services and do not hire a pest control company when you have a bat problem!
Common Pest Birds – Feral Pigeon Oklahoma
Feral Pigeon FERAL PIGEONColumba livia (domest.)
Life span
They average 3-5 years in the wild. Captive pigeons generally live up to 15 years but some have been known to live for up to 35 years.
Statistics
Length: 11-13 inches, Wingspan: 20-24 inches.
Physical Description
Feral pigeons are a generally gray bird with slightly iridescent feathers on the neck that shine pink and green in the sunlight. Coloration is very variable with some individuals being white, others brownish-red, some gray and many mixtures. The eyes are orange and shine brightly in the sunlight.
Distribution
Feral pigeons are widespread and very common throughout Europe. They are also found in Africa, North America, South America and Asia.
Habitat
They inhabit coastal cliffs or buildings in towns and cities.
Diet
Wild rock doves feed on seeds but the diet of the pigeons has grown to include bread, vegetables, meat and other food discarded by humans
BehaviorPigeons feed on the ground in flocks or individually. They roost together in buildings or on walls or statues. When drinking, most birds take small sips and tilt their heads backwards to swallow the water. Pigeons are able to dip their bills into the water and drink continuously without having to tilt their heads back. When disturbed, a pigeon in a group will take off with a noisy clapping sound. This helps inform the other pigeons that there is danger present. If a pigeon is alone, it will respond to danger by keeping very still and trying not to be noticed. Pigeons are excellent fliers and can reach speeds of up to 50mph. They are capable of rapid dives and changes in direction and most of the time will easily out maneuver a bird of prey such as a sparrow hawk. They are resident and do not migrate.
ReproductionDuring courtship the male will follow a female around bowing his head, fanning his tail and making ‘cooing’ noises. Eventually a short dance begins with the male’s beak being held in the females. Mating occurs shortly afterward and is fairly brief. The male sits on the female’s back flapping his wings to keep balance. It may take several clumsy attempts before the male successfully mates with the female. Nests are built by the female using material collected by the male. The female lays clutches of two white eggs. Young pigeons are known as ‘squabs’.
Conservation status
Non-native/Non-protected
Voice
The call is a soft ‘coo’ sound, repeated several times.

Lawton Oklahoma Bird Prevention and Control Texas Bird Control
Oklahoma Bird Prevention and Control
- Any scare device will work for a few days, but birds are smart and will soon get used to it. Some effective visual scare methods include hanging aluminum pie tins, replicas of predators, reflective tape, or large, scare-eye balloons (that mimic the scary eyes of predator birds). Noisemakers, such as radios or intermittent canon exploders are also useful.
- The best way to control bird damage is through exclusion. Bird netting protects tree fruit and berries if installed two to three weeks before fruit matures. You can also cover maturing corn ears with paper bags, and lay garden fabric over germinating seedlings to foil the birds.
Get rid of Skunks in Lawton OKC Oklahoma City Altus
Oklahoma Skunk Removal and Oklahoma Skunk control will always be unpredictable. The spray from a Oklahoma skunk can linger for weeks. unless you are very brave and or very confident, always have a Oklahoma skunk professional remove these friendly but smelly creatures. Dogs that get sprayed by the Oklahoma skunk usually try to rub the smell from a Oklahoma skunk onto your carpet or couch. Skunks are intelligent and usually good natured. Despite their gentle manner, skunks can be deadly simply because they are often carriers of rabies. Skunks are predators and can decimate ground-nesting wild bird populations and local populations of endangered species of small mammals. Skunks are not true hibernators. They venture out of their dens for short distances when temperatures are near the freezing mark and snow conditions are favorable. Skunks are furbearers, and this classification provides them with legal protection except during the hunting and trapping season. Skunk activity rarely causes serious economic loss; rather, their scent creates a nuisance around occupied buildings. Skunks are fearless and won’t back down when endangered, especially during their breeding season. This is another reason they are so often struck by vehicles at this time of the year.
Skunks are perhaps most well known for their defense strategy. When confronted, striped skunks will face the threat, arch and elevate their tail, erect the tail hairs, chatter their teeth, and stomp the ground with their front feet. Skunks are active both day and night and seem to be most active during the late evening and early hours of the night. They den up in groups during the winter. Skunks are excellent “mousers”, and may even be better at it then cats. They eat many mice, rats, other small rodents, grubs, and a variety of insects. Skunks are vulnerable to conibear-type traps and a fruit or vegetable bait is even more important when this trap is used. Often skunks killed in Conibear traps will not emit their musk. Skunks are known to break open eggs by pitching them backward between their legs. Shallow pits dug or rooted in the earth are evidence of their nightly hunts. Skunks are rodent predators who often follow mice and rats into these areas. Close openings around decks, stairs, sheds and hot tubs. Skunks are omnivorous, meaning they eat insects, plants and meats. They dine on insects, grubs, eggs and berries, and occasionally catch mice. Skunks are out foraging or seeking mates from late afternoon through the night. Their slow gait and reluctance to give ground make them a frequent victim of vehicular traffic, especially at this time of the year. Skunks are also a major reservoir and vector of rabies, but at present oral vaccines for use in skunks are not licensed. Furthermore, given differences in morphology (smaller jaws) and behavior (food handling and consumption), it is unknown if baits currently used in ORV campaigns would be effective for skunks. Skunks are predators too, but they feed extensively on insects and some plant matter.
Skunks are generally active at night, however, healthy skunks are occasionally active during the day. Skunks frequently have poor eyesight and may approach a person or pet or be unaware as a person or pet walks towards them. Skunks are omnivores, meaning they?ll eat just about anything. They’ll consume a variety of plants and animals during the fall and winter, including carrion, but depend on insects in the summer. Skunks are nocturnal and feed on many kinds of plants and animals. Skunks release a noxious musk to discourage predators. Skunks are the reservoir of the disease and they represent the largest number of positive diagnoses at the laboratory.
